Resource Optimization Strategy for Network-intensive and IO-intensive Applications in Cloud

Abstract:In cloud virtual machine is applied by users themselves which will cause waste of resources if tasks are not enough on virtual machines or decrease the quality of service if the tasks on virtual machines are overload with traditional resource allocation strategies.To increase the resource utilization and guarantee the quality of service,one possible solution is to process the applications in clouds based on their types.Considering network-intensive application and IO-intensive application are two types of most used applications in cloud,resource preferences for these two types of applications are studied.The resource usage parameters for the applications are obtained.Using these parameters an application based resource allocation strategy is put forward.Extensive experiments show that the strategy put forward can much improve the resource utilization efficiency and decrease the energy consumption for I/O intensive application and network intensive application.It can be used as a basis on how to high efficiently use the cloud resources.
